Race 3: Shamrock Sprint 0-70 – 1100m
Jockey P Shiers, rider of the third placegetter FORMS OF FEAR and apprentice jockey J Hampson, rider to the second placed CONVINCEBILITY each lodged an objection against the winner MR HAVE A CHAT, ridden by apprentice jockey H Le Blanc, alleging interference in the home straight. At a protest hearing it was established MR HAVE A CHAT shifted ground outwards under pressure in the straight and in doing so made contact and brushed with FORMS OF FEAR near the 200m, 150m and again inside the 50m. It was also established that CONVINCEBILITY lay inwards when tested with the whip leaving the 200m and was then angled outwards to secure a run to the outside of the heels of FORMS OF FEAR near the 150m and was then momentarily impeded indirectly from the outward shift of MR HAVE A CHAT over the concluding stages. After considering all the evidence presented, Stewards were of the opinion that the interference suffered by FORMS OF FEAR was minimal and not greater than the margin between that gelding and the winner at the finish. Stewards were also of the opinion that the impediment to CONVINCEBILITY over the concluding stages had no impact on the gelding’s finishing position and therefore both protests were dismissed and correct weight was declared on the Judge’s placings.
CONVINCEBILITY (J Hampson) – Bumped at the start. Lay inwards when tested with the whip leaving the 200m and after being impeded from heels was then taken outwards to secure clear running near the 150m.
FORMS OF FEAR (P Shiers) – Brushed by another runner near the 200m, 150m and again inside the 50m.
MR HAVE A CHAT (H Le Blanc) – Shifted out under pressure and contacted another runner near the 200m, 150m and again inside the 50m, with the rider stopping the use of the whip on two occasions.
PATRIOTIC KING (J Todd) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped. Raced wide throughout.
