Race 5: Ladbrokes Summer Sprint Series (Heat 7) Handicap 0-64 – 1100m

Stewards interviewed trainer P Cole in relation to the riding instructions he intended to issue as the stable had multiple runners in the event.

Jockey J Todd, rider of the fourth placed DEVILS DELIGHT lodged an objection against the second placed LA BOQUERIA ridden by jockey R Vigar, alleging interference inside the final 200m. At a protest hearing, it was established that leaving the 200m LA BOQUERIA shifted inwards into the running line of DEVILS DELIGHT resulting in that runner being tightened for room and checked by its rider. Stewards were satisfied that the interference suffered by DEVILS DELIGHT in this incident was greater than the 1 length margin between both runners at the finish and the protest was therefore upheld and after relegating LA BOQUERIA the judges placings were amended accordingly.

DEVILS DELIGHT (J Todd) – Bumped at the start. Tightened for room and checked near the 150m.

DEAR PRUDENCE (H Le Blanc) – Raced wide from the 700m.

LA BOQUERIA (R Vigar) – Bumped at the start.

PLAGUE STONE (J Hampson) – Raced wide throughout.

General - On inquiry jockey R Vigar (LA BOQUERIA) was found guilty of a charge of engaging in careless riding under AR131(a). The specifics being that whilst riding his mount along leaving the 200m, he permitted the mare to shift inwards when insufficiently clear resulting in DEVILS DELIGHT being tightened for room and checked by its rider near the 150m. Jockey R Vigar’s license to ride in races was suspended for 1 NT meeting to commence midnight 8th March, 2025 and expire after midnight 15th March, 2025.
