Race 3: Sportsbet Handicap BM76 – 1200m
Stewards interviewed trainer G Clarke in relation to the riding instructions he intended to issue as the stable had multiple runners in the event.
Protest - Stewards considered a protest lodged by jockey S Logan, rider of the fourth placed POLARISING against the third placed TUBTHUMPER (W Davis) alleging interference inside the final 200m. After taking evidence from all relevant parties and viewing the patrol vision, it was established that leaving the 175m TUBTHUMPER commenced to shift outwards under pressure resulting in POLARISING having to be steadied off heels when impeded near the 150m and also obliged to change direction and angle inwards across heels near the 50m. Stewards were of the opinion that the ground lost in these incidents was not greater than the one length margin between both runners at the finish and therefore the protest was dismissed.
At a subsequent inquiry into this interference jockey W Davis was reprimanded under AR132(a) for engaging in careless riding by failing to make sufficient effort to straighten TUBTHUMPER when the mare was shifting ground under pressure.
SEGUSO (A Sweeney) – Rider was interviewed in relation to his use of the whip in the early stages of the event and advised to modify his action to ensure compliance with AR132(7)(a)(iii).
TUBTHUMPER (W Davis) – Delayed the start after proving difficult to load. Trainer P Cole was advised that a warning will now be placed on the mare in this regard. Shifted outwards under pressure inside the final 200m.
