General: Stewards today inquired into the events surrounding a loud verbal outburst by Mrs R Maloney directed at jockey I Luximon that occurred outside the scales area at the Alice Springs Turf Club following the final race on Saturday 2 November 2024. Whilst Mrs R Maloney is not licensed by TRNT, she is a registered owner and therefore bound by the Australian Rules of Racing. After considering all the available evidence and the circumstances of a post-race incident involving her son apprentice jockey L Maloney being threatened by jockey I Luximon, Stewards reprimanded Mrs R Maloney for a breach of AR228(b) for engaging in unseemly behaviour.

MAGICOURT (J Philpot) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

General: S Logan rider of the 4th placegetter (ILLUSIVE STAR) lodged a protest against the 2nd placegetter FLORAL CODE (O Kendal) alleging interference passing the 100m. After taking evidence from relevant parties, it was established that passing the 100m, ILLUSIVE STAR was beginning to improve it’s position along the rail and established a run before FLORAL CODE shifted inwards causing ILLUSIVE STAR to be crowded for room having to check and lose ground. Stewards were of the opinion that the ground lost by ILLUSIVE STAR in this incident was greater than the margin between both runners at the finish, and therefore the protest was upheld and the placings amended accordingly.

At a subsequent inquiry apprentice jockey Olivia Kendal pleaded guilty to a charge of engaging in careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a). The specifics of the charge being that she allowed her mount FLORAL CODE to shift ground inwards passing the 100m when insufficiently clear resulting in ILLUSIVE STAR (S Logan) having to be checked and unbalanced, losing ground. Apprentice O Kendal’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 1 NT meeting. When considering penalty, Stewards took into account that she had also been penalised by way of losing her percentage of prize money for running second following the protest result.

In determining the commencement of this penalty, Stewards considered that apprentice jockey O Kendal was riding at this meeting on a deferment from a term of suspension imposed by the QRIC Stewards for a whip breach that commences midnight 28th of November and expires midnight the 9th December. Stewards ordered that this penalty should be served cumulatively with the abovementioned sanction and the 1 NT meeting suspension imposed therefore commences midnight the 9th December, and expires after midnight the 14th December. Apprentice O Kendal was advised of her right of appeal.
