General: All acceptors for the Darwin Cup were subject to a veterinary examination on Friday 2 August, 2024 and blood samples were collected for the purpose of out of competition testing.

The following runners that raced on Saturday 3 August 2024, underwent a veterinary examination upon arriving on course prior to competing today.

Race 4 – STAR MAGNUM, CONCLAVE PRINCE, ZOURATA

Race 5 – GRINZINGER BISHOP (late scratching), REAL DIVINE

Race 7 – BOY BIG, DUMMY SPIT, RISING FIRE

Race 1: Schweppes Sprint 0-70 – 1200m

Stewards interviewed trainer K Healy in relation to the riding instructions he intended to issue as the stable had multiple runners in the event.

CITY REGAL (J Hampson) – Cast the off-hind plate in running.

EL MAGNIFICENCE (D Gillett) – Commenced awkwardly. Brushed the running rail approaching the 600m when placed in restricted room.

PATRIOTIC KING (J Todd) – Commenced awkwardly.

SABOR (V Arnott) – Raced wide throughout.

MATHEMATICS (A Sweeney) – Slow into stride.

POMPEII EMPIRE (M Pegus) – Raced wide from the 700m.

NOBLE MAGNATE (C Newitt) – Commenced awkwardly.

HALLOWED GROUND (S Fawke) – Rider advised he had difficulty negotiating the first turn as his mount lay outwards and raced ungenerously having to be restrained from heels. Stable foreman J Dyer was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding in relation to its racing manners.

Race 2: Atomic TROBIS Handicap 0-58 - 1200m

Stewards interviewed trainer P Cole in relation to the riding instructions he intended to issue as the stable had multiple runners in the event.

EGYPTIAN TYCOON (M Pegus) – Commenced awkwardly.

COLLISON (N Callow) – Contacted the gate when leaving the saddling enclosure and sustained an abrasion to the off hip. After undergoing a veterinary examination behind the barriers was cleared to compete. Slow into stride and bumped. Raced wide throughout. Rider reported that his mount had lay outwards in running. Shifted inwards under pressure in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

DEBATING (J Todd) – Bumped with another runner shortly after the start.

MIAMI VICE (E Lines) – Commenced awkwardly.

IL DON CAVALLO (J Hampson) – Held up for clear running near the 150m.

TWO TIMES TWICE (S Logan) – Slow into stride. Steadied off heels approaching the 500m

ROYAL SIGNAL (V Arnott) – Shifted inwards when under pressure from the 200m.

SUPER FAMOUS (A Nicholls) – Raced wide throughout. Held up for clear running from the 300m to the 100m.

CALL IT A LOAN (C Hunter) – Shifted inwards when under pressure from the 200m.

Race 3: TAB Handicap 0-66 – 1100m

CHANGE IS COMING (J Todd) – Bounded on jumping. Raced wide throughout. Rider advised that the gelding has been better suited when able to lead and after losing ground at the start, he elected to remain on the outside of the field as the gelding does not appreciate racing close to other runners. He added that his mount failed to let down in the straight as anticipated and he recommended the addition of blinkers to connections. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

EXCEEDINGLY MAGIC (E Lines) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

POLARISING (S Logan) – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost ground.

BEAU FACTOR (D Gillett) – Slow into stride. Bumped with another runner on jumping. Shifted outwards under pressure over the concluding stages.

FIELD OF PRAISE (C Hunter) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

REAL VALENTIA (A Sweeney) – Raced wide throughout.

SHECANMIXIT (J Hampson) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

Race 4: Simone Montgomerie Lightning Plate – 1000m

Stewards interviewed trainers L Whittle and G Clarke in relation to the riding instructions they intended to issue as each stable had multiple runners in the event.

DOC O’CONNOR (J Todd) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped on jumping.

EXPERT WITNESS (J Lyon) – Knuckled slightly on jumping.

CONCLAVE PRINCE (K Yuill) – Slow into stride. Raced wide throughout.

FLYING ANNIE (A Sweeney) – Slow into stride.

RISING SPHERE (C Hefel) – Bumped with another runner on jumping. Lay inwards leaving the 250m having to be corrected by its rider.

Race 5: Designer Kitchens Handicap 0-58 – 1600m

Stewards interviewed trainer G Clarke in relation to the riding instructions he intended to issue as the stable had multiple runners in the event.

GRINZINGER BISHOP (K Yuill) – Declared a late scratching at 12.41pm after a pre-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore. Trainer K Healy was advised that he must present a veterinary clearance for the gelding prior to racing again.

FORTIS IN ARMIS (C Newitt) – Slow into stride and dipped shortly after the start.

GRINZINGER ALLEE (S Logan) – Slow into stride. Steadied approaching the 100m when racing up into restricted room near the inside rail.

KIEFFER (M Pegus) – Commenced to lay outwards from the 600m.

SUPER DEFENSE (J Hampson) – Commenced awkwardly.

CORDEN (A Sweeney) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped on jumping.

ESSKAY (C Gaudray) – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide throughout.

STAR OF MONSOON (A Nicholls) – Taken outwards and raced wide from the 600m.

REAL DIVINE (P Denton) – Raced wide throughout.

Race 6: Ladbrokes Handicap BMNT – 1600m

PINK PANTHER (A Sweeney) – Commenced awkwardly.

ZIGGI ROCKS (C Newitt) – Taken outwards and raced wide from the 650m.

HAMLET VON SNITZEL (A Nicholls) – Commenced to shift outwards when under pressure from the 200m.

Race 7: GH Mumm Handicap 0-62 – 1300m

MOORESTOWN (E Lines) – Rider advised that just prior to the start being effected, her mount turned its head into the adjacent inside barrier, and she was unable to correct it in time with the gelding being unable to commence with the field. In accordance with AR204 (1)(c) the Stewards were of the opinion that the gelding had been denied a fair start and accordingly declared it a non-runner.

All bets were ordered to be refunded and the following deductions were applicable to all winning bets placed prior to 3.27pm

1st – 6c win 7c place, 2nd 5c place, 3rd 5c place

BOY BIG (D Gillett) – Commenced awkwardly.

DUMMY SPIT (N Callow) – Bumped on jumping.

ANKLE ROLEX (K Yuill) – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide throughout.

ASTERN MAGIC (S Logan) – Trainer T Logan advised that due to the wide barrier he would give instructions for the gelding to be ridden in a rearward position.

SOUL SPIRIT (V Arnott) – Slow into stride.

LOTTO FIGHT (A Sweeney) – Bumped on jumping.

Race 8: Magic Millions Top End Classic BMNT – 1300m

THROW AT DA STUMPS (A Nicholls) – Raced wide throughout.

NEW ROMAN (P Denton) – Lay inwards near the 650m and when corrected then raced in restricted room for a short distance.

STYLE AND GRACE (J Todd) – Bumped with another runner near the 650m and made contact with the running rail and was checked by the rider.

MAGNETIC TYCOON (A Sweeney) – Slow into stride. Bumped with another runner on jumping. Raced wide from the 600m.

RUPERT’S DELIGHT (S Fawke) – Contacted another runner near the 650m and then lay outwards leaving the 600m.

CAPISTAN (C Hefel) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped with another runner on jumping.

MANUKA BAY (E Lines) – Knuckled at the start losing ground. Contacted the running rail on several occasions approaching the 650m. Raced in restricted room near the 650m.

General - On inquiry it was established that approaching the 650m RUPERT’S DELIGHT (S Fawke) shifted inwards marginally when racing inside other runners and contacted STYLE AND GRACE (J Todd) with it then contacting the running rail and being checked losing ground. Jockeys K Yuill (LAMOREE) and A Nicholls (THROW AT DA STUMPS) advised that they had maintained their racing positions to the outside of RUPERT’S DELIGHT which was supported by the Stewards patrol footage. Stewards were satisfied that no rider had ridden carelessly in this incident and accordingly took the matter no further other than to remind riders to exercise due caution to ensure all runners are provided sufficient racing room in similar circumstances.

Race 9: Buddybet Handicap 0-70 – 2050m

Stewards interviewed trainer N Dyer in relation to the riding instructions he intended to issue as the stable had multiple runners in the event.

HE’S MAVERICK (S Logan) – Bumped on jumping.

BOOM BOOM SWEET (P Denton) – Bumped on jumping.

THE CLAIMANT (C Newitt) – Bumped on jumping.

IKNOWHATYOUREDOING (T Schiller) – Raced wide throughout.

MAKBEEL (J Hampson) – Slow into stride.

MISSED VICTORY (A Sweeney) – Inconvenienced behind the heels of a tiring runner passing the 700m.

STEP FORWARD (S Fawke) – Bumped on jumping. Lay outwards under pressure from the 200m.

MUSELET (K Yuill) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped on jumping. Raced wide throughout.

Race 10: Great Northern Darwin Cup – 2050m

Stewards interviewed trainer G Clarke in relation to the riding instructions he intended to issue as the stable had multiple runners in the event.

BEAR STORY (N Callow) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have returned lame in the near fore. Trainer N Dyer was advised that he must present a veterinary clearance for the gelding prior to racing again. Trainer subsequently advised the gelding returned with abrasions to both front bumpers.

PLAYOFFS (C Gaudray) – Fractious prior to the start and commenced very awkwardly. Commenced to race wide from the 1100m.

STARSPANGLED BABY (S Logan) – Slipped over in the mounting enclosure and after undergoing a veterinary examination was passed fit to start. Yielded ground from the 700m and crowded between runners passing the 500m. Trainer A Perdon subsequently advised that the mare recovered without any reportable issues.

HETTINGER (C Newitt) – Threw its head on jumping and bumped with another runner. Following the unplaced performance a post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer N Dyer advised that the gelding will now have a spell.

HADOUKEN (T Schiller) – Raced wide throughout.

MASATORA (C Hefel) – Bumped at the start.

SON OF BIELSKI (S Fawke) – Steadied from heels approaching the 600m.

1ST HADOUKEN 2ND WOLFBURN 3RD  BEAR STORY

General:

Post-race swab samples taken from all winners, WOLFBURN & BEAR STORY (R10).

Pre-race samples were taken from: EL MAGNIFICENCE, SABOR, EGYPTIAN TYCOON, ROYAL SIGNAL, FROMTHENEVERNEVER, RED WRAITH, RUPERT’S DELIGHT, MUSELET and all runners engaged in Race 10.

All riders were breath tested for the presence of alcohol prior to riding.
