Race 2: AV-COMM.COM.AU HANDICAP 0-64 1100m

ROCK OF KRYPTONITE (J Philpot) – Bled from both nostrils during the event. As this was the first occasion trainer R Viney was advised of the provisions of AR79.

BRAT (D Gillett) – Bounded as the gates opened. Shifted outwards rounding the home turn.

ANGELLUCCIS (A Maloney) – Slow into stride.

TOFFIATO (P Denton) – Slow into stride.

LISA (I Luximon) – Commenced awkwardly. Taken outwards by another runner approaching the 250m causing its rider to have to check off the heels of a runner to its outside unbalancing its rider and losing ground.

General: Stewards opened an inquiry into interference sustained to Lisa (I Luximon) passing the 300m into the home straight. Evidence was taken from I Luximon in the presence of senior rider P Denton, D Gillett (BRAT) in the presence of her master T Gillett, and J Philpot (ROCK OF KRYPTONITE).

It was established that rounding the home turn, D Gillett allowed her mount to shift outwards uncorrected approaching the 300m which in turn carried LISA outwards onto the heels of ROCK OF KRYPTONITE just passing the 300m resulting in its rider having to take hold and check his mount, and further caused its rider to become severely unbalanced and losing ground. D Gillett was found guilty of a charge under AR131 for careless riding. The specifics being that in race 2 on the program today when she rode Brat, she allowed her mount to shift ground outwards about the 300m resulting in LISA (I Luximon) being taken outwards onto the heels of ROCK OF KRYPTONITE (J Philpot) further resulting in I Luximon having to take hold and check his mount off heels becoming severely unbalanced and losing ground.

D Gillett had her licence to ride in races suspended for 1 Alice Springs meeting expiring midnight 2nd July 2023.

Stewards when considering penalty took into consideration that she predominantly rides here in Alice Springs, her master’s no-plea to the charge and the severity of the interference. Stewards also considered that whilst this was D Gilletts first breach of careless riding in the NT, the degree of interference did not warrant a reprimand. D Gillett was notified of her right of appeal.
