General: All acceptors for the Darwin Cup were subject to a veterinary examination on Friday 29 July, 2022 and blood samples were collected for the purpose of out of competition testing.
Race 1: Schweppes 0-70 Handicap – 1200m
GLOBAL WONDER (A Nicholls) – Raced keenly for some distance leaving the 800m.
PATRIA (J Todd) – Slow into stride. Raced wide throughout.
EL MAGNIFICENCE (W Davis) – Became unbalanced after contacting the running rail on multiple occasions near the 700m.
HALGARD (NZ) (S Fawke) – Slow into stride. Racing keenly in the early and middle stages.

Race 2: Harvey Norman TROBIS 0-58 Handicap – 1200m
AKONI (J Todd) – Knuckled at the start. Lost momentum passing the 700m when laying outwards. Faltered in its action near the 50m with the rider easing his mount. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore. Trainer G Clarke was advised that he must present a veterinary clearance for the gelding prior to racing again.
FRACTION LATE (A Lindsay) – Bumped at the start. Raced wide for the majority.
NEW ROMAN (C Hunter) – Steadied back from heels from a runner yielding ground and taken outwards near the 700m.
REALLY SWISH (S Tsaikos) – Slow into stride.
RED’S MATE (P Crich) – Bumped and crowded shortly after the start.
STARLITE REBEL (J Keating) – Steadied when racing ungenerously near the 1100m.

SIROCCO GALE (P Shiers) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore. Trainer T Halter was advised that she must present a veterinary clearance for the gelding prior to racing again.

Race 6: G H Mumm Handicap – 1600m
LUNCH SESSION (S Fawke) – Over-raced in the early and middle stages getting its head in the air on several occasions. As the gelding refused to settle was taken outwards at the 1000m and raced wide thereafter.
JUST HANG UP (S Wiseman) – Commenced awkwardly. Lay outwards and steadied shortly after the start.

BARRAGUNDA (P Shiers) – Bumped, crowded and steadied shortly after the start.
SIGNOR FANGIO (NZ) (D Holland) – Bumped at the start and crowded shortly after. Raced wide from the 600m.

NOKONDI (W Davis) – Following the unplaced performance, a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have returned with an elevated heart rate.

Stewards interviewed trainer T Halter in relation to the riding instructions she intended to issue as the stable had multiple runners in the event.

KENT STREET (S Wiseman) – Bounded at the start.
WRITE YOUR NAME (S Fawke) – Carried outwards passing the 500m and raced wide from thereon.
DON’T WAIT (P Denton) – Raced wide throughout.
NOBLE WAR (J Hampson) – Brushed the running rail becoming unbalanced near the 800m.

Race 9: Silks Darwin Handicap – 2050m
HOLSTER (NZ) (A Nicholls) – Raced keenly passing the 800m. Held up for clear running between the 500m to 400m. Returned having cast the near hind plate.
MAGNOSSIVA (S Fawke) – Carried outwards passing the 1650m.
JET JACKSON (A Darmanin) – Carried outwards and impeded near the 450m.
LADY WHISTLEDOWN (S Wiseman) – Angled outwards across heels to improve near the 450m.
HANDBALL (C Hunter) – Bounded at the start. Raced ungenerously when keen in the early stages having to be shifted outwards from heels passing the 1650m.
ROYAL COURT (NZ) (J Hampson) – Commenced awkwardly. Steadied outwards from heels passing the 1650m.

Race 10: Great Northern Darwin Cup – 2050m
LIVING THE DREAM (B Rawiller) – Lay inwards from the 600m. When questioned regarding the unplaced performance rider expressed disappointment and advised that the gelding had attained a favourable position in running and was travelling comfortably however when ridden along from the 600m it commenced to lay inwards and was under pressure shortly after. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have returned with a slightly elevated heart rate.
I AM THE FOX (P Shiers) – Steadied outwards to avoid the heels of an injured runner near the 800m. Rider advised that the gelding had not travelled well in running and after being steadied to avoid the heels of the injured runner it had failed to stretch out and did not feel comfortable in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had experienced a cardiac arrythmia. Trainer T Halter was advised that the gelding was required to undergo an ECG prior to trialling and being re-examined subsequent to the trial prior to racing again. Trainer advised the gelding would also be spelled.
TRIDENT (NZ) (S Wiseman) – Mistrode near the 800m and was eased down. Sustained an injury to the near fore. Due to the extent of injury the gelding was humanely euthanised with post-mortem samples taken for analysis.

DANON ROMAN (JPN) (D Holland) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped.
STAROUZ (S Fawke) – Bumped at the start. Crowded, bumped and unbalanced rounding the home turn.
