General – Whilst conducting stable compliance checks on race morning the Stewards identified that PEMBROKE CASTLE trained by S Brown had a swollen haematoma on the near side jugular vein. Veterinarian Dr R Blanchette examined the site of the haematoma and in her opinion an injection had been administered within the previous 24 hours. Acting under the provisions of AR254(2) the Stewards withdrew the gelding from competing in its engagement in Race 2. Stewards collected blood and urine samples from the gelding and a number of used syringes that were located in the stables were also sent for analysis. Stewards opened an inquiry into this matter and after taking initial evidence and statements, the matter was adjourned pending the results of the collected samples.
Race 1: 0-62 1600m
ATONE (S Miller) was examined by the veterinarian behind the barriers at the request of the rider. The gelding was found to be lame in the near fore and therefore withdrawn by the Stewards acting on veterinary advice at 2.43pm. Trainer N Dyer was advised that he must present a veterinary clearance for the gelding prior to racing again.
