From DTC meeting 26 January, 2021 – Trainer G Clarke advised following the unplaced performance of LANIGERA he had blood samples analysed which revealed the gelding to have an immune system deficiency.
Race 1: Class 2 1300m
GRINZINGER BREW (V Arnott) – Raced wide throughout.
CRAZY SUSPECT (C Eaton) – Raced wide from the 600m.
LEGS ELEVEN (C Hunter) – Bounded at the start losing ground.
MON LOUIS (B Huppatz) – Commenced awkwardly.
General – Stewards inquired into the reason the bandages applied to the off hind leg of MARSALIS unravelled during the race. It was established that trainer A Forster had used Elastoplast bandages and then applied Coflex bandages over the top. As the Elastoplast bandages had not been stitched, they had worked loose in the wet conditions and unravelled. Trainer A Forster pleaded guilty to a breach of AR106(2) for failing to apply the bandages in accordance with the approved method and was fined the sum of $500.

Race 2: 0-70 1300m
MR BOOMJANGLES (V Arnott) – Raced wide throughout.
KAPTAN APOLLO (A Nicholls) – Slow to muster early speed. Bumped inwards near the 1200m and commenced to race keenly leaving the 1000m. Shifted out and bumped another runner at the 900m and again at the 650m.
YULONG AWESOME (C Hunter) – Bumped outwards and steadied passing the 900m.
RECORDING TO WIN (W Davis) – Bumped at the 650m.
1ST AUTOCRATIC 2ND TYCOON DANCER 3RD WEAPON
Race 3: 0-64 1100m
BULL MARKET – (P Shiers) was declared a late scratching at 8.11am at the request of connections due to the prevailing track conditions. Trainer A Forster was fined $200 for failing to make application to scratch the gelding by the prescribed time.
ESCONDIDO (A Nicholls) – Raced wide throughout.
DON’T WAIT (V Arnott) – Cast the off hind plate in running.
ARDIZOZONE (J Todd) – Commenced awkwardly.

Race 4: 0-58 1100m
OUR WITNESS (W Davis) – Became fractious in the barriers and after forcing open the front gates and dislodging the rider, the gelding was declared a late scratching by order of the Stewards at 5.22pm. All bets placed on OUR WITNESS were ordered to be refunded and all successful win and place bets placed prior to 5.22pm were subject to the following deductions:
TOORAK ROAD 12c win 17c place
CAPTAIN HEDDERWICK 9c place
Trainer P Cole was advised that OUR WITNESS must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.
The start time of this event was delayed several minutes to allow for the recapture of the riderless gelding.
CAPTAIN HEDDERWICK (J Todd) – Raced wide throughout.
IMA PUPPET (V Arnott) – Raced wide throughout.
DANCERS KIN (C Hunter) – Stood flat footed at the start and refused to commence with field taking no competitive part in the event. Trainer C Pollard was advised that the gelding must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.
1ST TOORAK ROAD 2ND CAPTAIN HEDDERICK 3RD IMA PUPPET
Race 5: BM54 1200m
The start time of this event was delayed due to late start of the previous race.
BON AIRE (C Eaton) – Lay inwards in the back straight despite the efforts of the rider and raced wide throughout. Trainer P Cole subsequently reported that upon return to the stables the gelding came out with a case of hives from a suspected allergic reaction and required immediate treatment.
MINT ON MOSELEY (B Huppatz) – Commenced awkwardly. Raced in restricted room passing the 650m.
A ROMAN ROAD (J Todd) – Underwent a veterinary examination upon arrival at the barriers and was cleared to compete.
DUNKIRK (V Arnott) – Raced wide rounding the home turn. Lay inwards under pressure in the straight with the rider having to stop riding and straighten the gelding passing the 100m and again over the concluding stages. Cast the near hind plate in running.
