WORLD FORCE (V Arnott) – Slow into stride. When questioned regarding the unplaced performance rider advised after being slow away she rode her mount vigorously in the early stages but the gelding commenced to resent the kickback and lost momentum. She added that despite her urgings the gelding fail to respond during the middle stages of the event when racing in a rearward position. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

SPEEDYCOM (C Spry) – When questioned regarding the unplaced performance, dual licensee C Spry advised that the gelding lay outwards rounding the first turn and consequently raced without cover in running and was under pressure prior to straightening. He was also of the opinion that the gelding may have choked down in running and will therefore apply a tongue tie for its next race start. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Race 4: 0-76 1600m
The start time of this event was put back to 4.42pm to allow additional time for track maintenance. This decision was made and announced prior to the first race.
MAKIN’ THE GRADE (K Gladwin) – When questioned regarding the unplaced performance rider advised that he had been instructed to race in a forward position and when JAVA was ridden along in the early stages to maintain the lead, he elected to ease his mount to settle off the leader. He explained that when steadying his mount racing into the first turn the gelding got its head up and veered outwards racing ungenerously for some distance. This resulted in runners improving to his inside and outside and as his mount has lost momentum he was unable to hold his position. The gelding then raced keenly in the middle stages and the rider had difficulty improving his position approaching the home turn when behind the heels of a tiring runner. This explanation was noted.
MAZZARO (R Vigar) – Bounded at the start.

General – On inquiry jockey W Davis pleaded to a charge of engaging in careless riding under AR131(a). The specifics were that as the rider of SMUGGLING when racing to the outside of MOOT (V Arnott) he did place undue pressure on that gelding from the 900m to the 650m resulting in that runner being held tight and bumped and unbalanced on two occasions approaching the first turn. Jockey W Davis had his license to ride in races suspended for 1 DTC meeting to expire after 27 March, 2020.
