Correct weight for this event was delayed when the rider of the 4th placegetter W Kerford (WOOGIE)) requested to see the Stewards patrol footage down the straight. After viewing the footage, W Kerford lodged a protest against the 3rd placegetter MILITARY FORCES (R Vigar) alleging interference just passing the 200m. Evidence was taken from both riders and trainers K Lamprecht and R Bell. After deliberating on the evidence, Stewards dismissed the protest and ordered that all placing’s stand. Stewards were of the opinion that whilst MILITARY FORCES did shift inwards at the 200m causing WOOGIE to shift outwards off its heels, W Kerford did not have to stop riding and did not lose any ground.

General: Stewards opened an inquiry into an incident that occurred at the 900m when PAOLO lost ground. Evidence was taken from W Davis (DREAM PASSENGER) and L Crow (PAOLO). It was established that leading up to this point PAOLO was over racing and whilst its rider had taken hold, the gelding was then tightened for room and lost ground when DREAM PASSENGER shifted outwards. Stewards reprimanded jockey W Davis for careless riding under AR131(a) as they were of the opinion that the shift of his mount was not the sole cause of the interference considering the racing manner of PAOLO.
