General – Stewards opened an inquiry into apprentice D Morgan’s handling of ROYAL REQUEST after finishing 7th in this event. Evidence was taken from Apprentice D Morgan and his host trainer G Connor and trainer N Dyer. Subsequently apprentice D Morgan was found guilty of a charge under AR129(2). The specifics were that in the opinion of the Stewards as the rider of ROYAL REQUEST after restraining the gelding at the start to race in a rearward position as instructed, he did continue to unnecessarily restrain the gelding in the run to the 1400m turn and then failed to ride with sufficient vigour in the back straight to allow the gelding to improve its position in running, when in the circumstances it was reasonable and permissible to do so. Apprentice D Morgan had is license to ride in races suspended for a period of 2 weeks (4 NT meetings) to commence midnight 14 July, 2019 and to expire after 28 July, 2019. When considering penalty Stewards took into account that he is a second year apprentice and also that it was a feature race.
