Race 2: 0-64 1300m
Stewards interviewed trainer/jockey C Spry regarding the riding instructions as his stable had multiple runners in the event.
KAPTAN APOLLO (B Davis) – When questioned regarding the unplaced performance rider advised that he had ridden his mount along vigorously in the early stages to obtain a forward position but when obliged to race three wide the gelding was under pressure mid race and yielded ground from the 600m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have an elevated heart rate. Trainer G Clarke agreed with the riders’ comments and is of the opinion that the gelding is better suited when able to lead without being pressured. He intends to race the gelding over an increased distance at its next start.
FEDERAL COURT (R Vigar) – Held up for clear running between the 600m and the 300m.
WICKED PROMISE (J Todd) – Bounded at the start losing ground.

JOLLY BOY ( R Vigar) – Bumped by another runner leaving the 1000m. Carried inwards and bumped at the 700m.
PUNCHEON JOURNEY (J Todd) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped.
General – On inquiry it was established that near the 700m SABAI SABAI (W Davis) lay inwards resulting in JOLLY BOY (R Vigar) being carried inwards and as a result bumped with MORAL OUTRAGE (T Treichel) which was crowded for room, bumped and restrained after making contact with ICELANDIC STAR (T Treichel) which in turn was bumped and unbalanced. Stewards were satisfied that W Davis (SABAI SABAI) had made every effort to straighten his mount when laying inwards in this incident and therefore no further action was taken.
