Race 1 KFC Maiden Plate 1200 metres
LIBERTY’S TORCH (P Denton) – Commenced awkwardly. Began to yield ground from the 900m losing considerable ground from the main field and taking no part in the event. Rider reported that the gelding did not feel comfortable in running although did begin to stretch out again down the straight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Trainer Ms K Petrick advised that she was disappointed with the geldings’ performance and could offer no explanation other than the gelding may have been effected by the hot weather conditions of today’s meeting. Stewards were of the opinion that there were no underlining reasons for the gelding’s poor performance other than being uncompetitive and therefore advised Ms Petrick that the gelding must trial in a competitive manner satisfactory to the Stewards, prior to again racing. Ms Petrick subsequently advised that she will now be giving the gelding a spell until the cooler weather arrives.
