Thoroughbred Racing Northern Territory is proud to assist racing "young gun" Maddison Viney to purse her equine studies.
The 18-year-old leaves Saturday 12th September after being accepted into the Accelerator Program at Hawkesbury TAFE, New South Wales, in the hope of furthering her career as a trackwork rider.
She will be in the hands on for the next three months with prominent jockeys like Hugh Bowman, Tommy Berry and Kathy O'Hara to learn her craft.
TRNT chief executive Andrew O'Toole said he was very proud of Maddison, and were happy to support her as the first from the Territory to attend this course.
"Our trackwork riders are absolutely critical to the success of our industry in the NT," he said.
"Track riders require exceptionally high-level riding skills to exercise racehorses at pace an they must be able to interpret and implement instructions from trainers and communicate information about racehorse fitness and performance so it is no small job.
"Maddison is at the track each raceday and she's at the stables bright and early each morning to ensure the work gets done, so she's really proven that her heart is in it.
"The decision to support her was an easy one and we thank Women in Thoroughbred Racing NT for their support of Maddison as well. We look forward to welcoming her back with all the knowledge she will gain from this course."
Miss Viney said she was excited to learn from the best.
"It's an incredible opportunity to be able to learn from people like Hugh Bowman so I can't wait to get down there and get into it." she said.
"This industry is my passion, and I can't wait to come back and put this course to good use."
