Overview
Vanessa Lines boasts a wealth of equestrian qualifications, including her status as an EA Level 2 Dressage Coach, a Level 1 General Coach, and a Skill-Specific Training Assessor. She further complements her expertise with a diploma in Advanced Horse Management. Vanessa has been at the helm of Wave Equestrian, her Darwin-based enterprise, for nearly 12 years. Her services encompass private and group lessons, as well as the regular organisation of clinics both with herself and interstate visiting Coaches
Vanessa is the proud owner of three magnificent equines. Among her equine companions, two are Warmbloods, both actively competing in Dressage. One of them competes at the Elementary level whilst dabbling in a little show jumping, while the other demonstrates its prowess in Medium/Advanced Dressage. Vanessa also shares her equestrian journey with 'Hamish,' (race name Bondi Royalty) a 19-year-old Off-The-Track Thoroughbred (OTTB) with an impressive resume. Hamish has a rich history, having achieved three-star eventing status and competed at the Grand Prix level in Dressage. As Heath Ryan described him, he was the only horse he knew in the world that could complete a 3* event one weekend and compete at Grand Prix the next.
Vanessa caters to riders of all disciplines, placing significant emphasis on establishing a solid foundation in equestrian fundamentals. Her specialization primarily revolves around Dressage and Show Jumping. The facilities at Wave Equestrian are of the highest quality, ensuring a secure and tranquil setting. Notably, the establishment features a fully enclosed, floodlit fibre arena, further enhancing the riding experience. The arena has mirrors plus a purpose built seated shaded viewing area.
Before making her move to the Northern Territory in 2007, Vanessa devoted her time to the retraining of numerous former racehorses, preparing them for eventing. In her current role, Vanessa serves as a coach for several OTTB’s, deriving immense satisfaction from witnessing their progress and success as they pursue competitive goals.
Training with Vanessa ensures valuable one on one time with a calm and committed approach using a lifetime of experience and a sound knowledge of the fundamentals of training. All aspects from care, nutrition, groundwork and education are vital in producing a confident and trusting partner in your chosen discipline.
Although Vanessa provides a variety of clinics, her focus typically shifts to group sessions in addition to private lessons during the wet season. These sessions are designed to bolster riders and their horses' confidence while refining their skills in preparation for upcoming competitions. Typically, these sessions involve a combination of strengthening and gymnastic exercises. A perfect complement to your training.
Few words from Vanessa
"There is nothing I love more than being a part of a journey with a horse and their rider. To watch them train hard, overcome fears, set boundaries, become a good leader, become a good listener, respect others, gain trust and stay motivated. Plus most of all have fun and learn the art of patience."
