Race 1  John McBride Handicap (Div 1) 1200m

EXONERATE (K Gladwin) – Scrambled out of barriers on jumping. Lay inwards under pressure over the concluding stages and as a result rider was unable to fully test his mount.

DUVET (W Kerford) – Steadied off heels at the 700m.

SHINING MANE (J Todd) – Commenced awkwardly.

HOWNOWBROWNCOW (K Cross) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

SHAMPERS (L Crow) – Bumped with another runner on jumping and shortly after was tightened between runners becoming momentarily unbalanced.

TAYLASTAR (C Johnson) – Commenced awkwardly and raced wide throughout.

DOUBLE DUX (P Denton) – Inclined to lay inwards under pressure down the length of the straight.

Race 2: Terry Lillis Handicap (Div 2)  1200m

BACHELOR PAD (L Crow) – Commenced awkwardly getting its head up and failed to muster early speed. 

BONSAI BOY (D Tourneur) – Fractious in the barriers and inclined to lay outwards rounding the home turn.

PACO EXPRESS (J Lyon) – Bumped with runner on jumping. After a disappointing performance, a veterinary examination failed to find any apparent abnormalities. Trainer M Nyhan subsequently advised Stewards that the gelding will now be retired.

ALKIRION (C Johnson) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

LA BANDITA (J Todd) – Inclined to lay outwards throughout the event.

Race 3: Bernadette Joyner & Brian Cairns Handicap  1100m

Stewards interviewed trainer L Gillett in relation to the riding instructions she intended to issue bearing in mind she had multiple runners in this event.

BRAZILLIANT (J Lyon) – Stewards questioned rider in regards to his ride in this event as the gelding normally races up on the speed whereas today settled back second last. Rider advised that from the wide barrier he was unable to muster the speed to race forward and when settling in behind runners his mount resented the kickback before running home strongly when shifting out into clear running down the straight. This explanation was noted.

DESERT SPIRIT (L Crow) – Knuckled slightly on jumping.

REWARDABLE (B Huppatz) – Commenced awkwardly and tightened between runners on jumping.

CONISTON SAFARI (W Kerford) – Steadied off heels into the first turn.

DOOKIE EXPRESS (K Cross) – Commenced awkwardly bumping with another runner.

REWARD FOR RICHES (D Tourneur) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

ELLISON (K Gladwin) – Raced wide throughout.

OUTPUT (J Todd) – Commenced awkwardly getting its head up.

PAUSINI (C Johnson) – Steadied off heels into the first turn.

Race 4:  David Lillicrap Handicap  1000 metres

ROYCEY (W Kerford) – Raced wide throughout.

OVERRIDE (C Johnson) – Cast the off hind plate in running.

COLDROCK (R Vigar) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

FIRE ‘N’ VICE (J Todd) – Inconvenienced for clear running between runners at the 600m.

KENTUCKY FIREBALL (P Denton) – Slow into stride bumping with another runner.

Race 5: Kevin Hickmott Handicap  1400 metres

BON JET (W Kerford) – Commenced awkwardly bumping with another runner. Bumped and taken outwards by another runner at the 200m.

JAXIM (P Denton) – Fractious in the barriers. Bumped with another runner at the 200m after shifting outwards to obtain clear running.

HENRY LAD (J Lyon) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

MAN WITH A PLAN (K Cross) – Bumped with another runner on jumping. Raced wide throughout.

PRIMEIRO (B Huppatz) – Slow into stride.

IT’S NOT TRUMP (R Vigar) – Bumped with another runner on jumping

Race 6: Ladbrokes Pioneer Park Anniversary Cup 1400 metres

Stewards interviewed trainer L Whittle in relation to the riding instructions she intended to issue bearing in mind she had multiple runners in this event.

URBAN BOURBON ($6.50) was a late scratching at 4:50pm acting on vet’s advice after the rider reported that the gelding felt lame on route to the barriers and subsequently found to be sore in the off fore. Trainer E Weir was advised that prior to the gelding again starting in a race or trial she must produce a veterinary certificate of soundness satisfactory to the Stewards.

Due to there being no local bookmakers in attendance no betting deductions were issued.

REMBRANDT (B Huppatz) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

HILLBILLY RICH (D Tourneur) – Bumped with another runner on jumping. Inclined to lay outwards under pressure down the length of the straight.

DOON BUGGY (C Johnson) – Commenced awkwardly bumping with another runner.


General: Stewards interviewed trainer L Whittle in relation to her abusive behaviour in the race day stalls and entrance to the mounting enclosure prior to the running of the last race. Whilst Stewards acknowledged her explanation for the uncharacteristic outburst, she was nonetheless advised that she must conduct herself professionally at all times. 

Post-race samples were taken from all winners.
