Following a heavy downpour prior to the first race the track rating was reclassified to Wet Fast at 1.20pm. Stewards and a delegation of senior jockeys inspected a section of the track near the 400m. Due to this section of the course proper holding excess water the decision was made to allow extra time for this area to drain. The start time of race 1 was put back until 2.35pm and race 2 until 3.10pm.
Race 1: Maiden 1300m
OCEAN’S BETWEEN US (R Vigar)– Taken wide passing the 600m after resenting the kick.
GRAMMAR BOY (B Davis) – Fractious in the barriers. Bumped at the start.
TAN TAT BLAZE (C Spry) – Slow away and bumped.
Race 2: BMNT 1300m
HAMMERED ART (C Spry) – Wide throughout.
General – On inquiry jockey M Hagley was found guilty of a charge of improper conduct under AR175(q) as a result of her actions when mounted on CHERABIN whilst returning to the saddling enclosure following the running of this event. Ms Hagley was fined the sum of $500.
Race 3: BM54 1200m
EMJYE (P Shiers) – Was declared a late scratching at 1.33pm after trainer C Pollard reported that the gelding sustained an injury to its near hind leg whilst being loaded onto his transport to the races. Mr Pollard was advised that he must present a vet clearance for the gelding prior to racing again.
MIGHTY TAX (J Lyon) – Carried inwards and bumped with another runner at the 700m. Resented the kick back after being crossed approaching the 650m and as a result lost ground.
DUVET (K Gladwin) – Jumped awkwardly bumping another runner.
SNITZEL MUSIC (V Arnott) – Raced wide throughout.
BELLA GIULIETTA ( B Huppatz) – Dwelt at the start and lost several lengths.
GERONIMO’S SON (R Vigar) – Shifted in and bumped with another runner 700m.
General – On inquiry jockey R Vigar (GERONIMO’S SON) was cautioned for shifting inwards near the 700m resulting in MIGHTY TAX (J Lyon) being carried inwards and bumped.
Race 4: 0 - 58 1000m
SOPHACLES (K Gladwin) – Knuckled at the start.
OUR BAY ROE (M Hagley) – Tightened for room and restrained at the 700m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have returned with an ulcerated left eye.
DISCO (K Cross) – A post race veterinary examination revealed that gelding to be lame in the near fore. Trainer L Walling-Denton was advised that she must present a vet clearance for the gelding prior to racing again.
MARY’S RED ROSE (R Vigar) – Dwelt at the start. Raced wide throughout.
CELEBRATE (J Andreou) – Shifted ground outward abruptly at the 700m.
TIGRA (V Arnott) – Raced ungenerously through the middle stages due to the kickback.
General – On inquiry it was established that near the 700m CELEBRATE (J Andreou) shifted out abruptly, despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in OUR BAY ROE (M Hagley) being tightened for room and restrained. Stewards were satisfied that apprentice J Andreou attempted to correct her mount in this incident and therefore no further action was taken.
Race 5: 0-70 1600m
WOOGIE (R Vigar) – Raced wide throughout.
THE WILD SIDE (F Bergstrand) – Raced wide on straightening.
PETRACCA (J Lyon) – Slow to muster early speed.
WINDFOLA (J Andreou) – Brushed with another runner at the 650m and raced wide throughout.
Post-race samples were taken from all winners. Pre-race samples were taken from BENZAGAIN, KAPTAN APOLLO, DUVET, MARYS RED ROSE, TIGRA and ROCKMEARTIE.
Race 2 – Jockey M Hagley was fined $500.00 for improper conduct – AR175(q)
Race 3 – EMJYE vet clearance required.
Race 4 – DISCO vet clearance required.
