Race 1: BM54 1300M

COMMISSAR (F Bergstrand) – Had a tendency to lay inwards when tested with the whip inside the final 100m.

BO ZEPHYR (R Vigar) – Slow into stride. Steadied after improving onto heels near the 800m and the 650m.

OCTOMINT P Crich) – Resented the kick back and lost ground through the middle stages. 

CELEBRATE (L Miller) – Raced wide throughout.

General – When questioned jockey R Vigar (BO ZEPHER) reported that his mount travelled keenly through the middle stages and had to be restrained after improved onto the heels of OCTOMINT at the 800m and again at the 650m. As a result he was obliged to take the gelding outwards to obtain clear running and after the racing wide he reported that his mount ran on strongly in the straight.

Race 2: BM76 1200M

Stewards interviewed trainer G Clarke in regards to the riding instructions he intended to issue bearing in mind his stable had three runners in the event.

STATUE OF WARRIORS (W Davis) – Crowded between runners and tightened for room at the start.

HOOK ME UP (R Vigar) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped.

CLASSY AL (B Huppatz) – Retired from the event before straightening at the 400m. The Clubs Veterinary Surgeon reported that after sustaining a fracture to the off hind leg the gelding was euthanized. 

Race 3: 0-64 1200M

HOWDEE (P Crich) – Bounded at the start and lost ground.

HUSSOR (P Shiers) – Rider reported his mount failed to muster early speed.

ALSOADAMAS (C Spry) –Had a tendency to hang outwards in running.

DUKE OF YORK (R Vigar) –Raced wide throughout.

Race 4: CLASS 2  1100M

SO STOIC (M Hagley) – Commenced awkwardly and lost ground.

RABHAAN (L Miller) – Fractious behind the barriers and was difficult to load. Trainer P Johnston was advised that a warning would be placed on the colt’s barrier manners.

LADY EMILY (V Arnott) – Race wide throughout.

General – Jockey L Miller was dislodged from RABHAAN behind the barriers and took an apparent harmless fall. Following the race he complained of a sore wrist and after being examined by the Paramedics was transported to Royal Darwin Hospital for x rays.

Jockey M Hagley (SO STOIC) requested to review the patrol film before correct weight was given and made application for her mount to be declared a non-runner as she was of the opinion that the gelding had been denied a fair start. After deliberation Stewards were satisfied that the gelding had the opportunity to commence with the field and therefore dismissed the application and declared correct weight.

Race 5: 0-58 1000M

As jockey L Miller was indisposed he was replaced on MICKY by jockey P Denton. As there was no other rider available to make the allotted weight, Stewards permitted P Denton to ride 2kg overweight.

IRON JAKE(R Oakford) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped.

NICCORSSA (V Arnott) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped.

LARRICONI (S Ridler) – Slow to begin.

PUZZLED PRINCESS (R Vigar) – Crowded between runners at the 700m.

MICKY (P Denton) – Slow away and failed to muster early speed.


Post-race samples were taken from all winners. A post mortem sample was taken from CLASSY AL. Pre-race samples were taken from CANON DIABLO, BARTENDER MAN, SANDHILL EXPRESS, HOOK ME UP, ALSOADAMAS and DUKE OF YORK.
