General – Stewards today inquired into a complaint received from the DTC in relation to an incident involving licensed trainer/jockey Carl Spry prior to the first race on Saturday 4th August, 2018. C Spry was found guilty of a charge under AR175(q) with the specifics being that his conduct in failing to comply with the reasonable requests from DTC gate staff upon his arrival on course and his subsequent behaviour towards them was in the opinion of the Stewards improper. C Spry was fined the sum of $500.

Race 1: 0-66 1000m

BROOKLYN (C Spry) – Lay inwards in the early and middle stages.

EVIL MISS (J Maskiell) – Proved difficult to load. Commenced awkwardly. Rider reported his mount did not appreciate the kickback.

ZOCALOS (J Lyon) – Bumped at the start.

WICKED AFFAIR (J Kah) – Knuckled at the start and then bumped

Race 2: Lightning Plate 1000m

KILIM  (P Denton) – Slow into stride.

ROUGHLY (K Gladwin) – Bounded at the start.

A PRIVATE PARTY (J Lyon) – Raced wide throughout.

Race 3: 0-70 1200m

CULZEAN (K Gladwin) – Raced wide throughout. Rider dropped his rein near the 200m and his mount veered inwards when being corrected.

AMERICAN GENIUS  (B Davis) – Raced wide from the 600m. A post race veterinary examination revealed to gelding had returned with an elevated heart rate.

MARBEL DUKE (R Oakford) – Commenced awkwardly.

WAS AGONA (P Denton) – Slow into stride. Carried inwards and impeded near the 200m.

Race 4: 0-58 1100m

Stewards interviewed trainer P Cole in relation to his riding instructions as his stable had multiple runners in this event.

JAYEFFKAY (J Maskiell) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped. When questioned regarding the unplaced performance rider advised that despite his efforts his mount failed to muster early speed and resented the kickback in the back straight. He elected to shift the gelding to the outside of the field rounding the first turn but it failed to respond to his urgings and did not finish off in the home straight as anticipated. He added that his saddle had shifted during the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

EDGE OF CHAOS (J Todd) – Raced keenly in the middle stages.

COMBAT WARRIOR  (K Gladwin) – Following the unplaced performance a post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer G Lefoe was advised that the mare must barrier trial satisfactorily and he also is required to present a post trial veterinary clearance prior to racing again.  

CRESTA CHROME (J Potter) – Bumped at the start.

SNITZEL MUSIC (V Arnott) – Raced wide throughout.

Race 5: BMNT 1300m

Stewards interviewed trainer G Clarke in relation to his riding instructions as his stable had multiple runners in this event.

EINSTEIN MAGIC (J Lyon) – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore. Trainer D Leech was advised that he must present a veterinary clearance for the gelding prior to racing again.

RAKITIKI (W Davis) – Commenced awkwardly.

WOOGIE (R Vigar) – Bounded at the start.

MIGHTY TAX (V Arnott) – Raced wide from the 650m and lay outwards under pressure in the straight.

Race 6: 0-62 1300m

NEEDY ROCKET (J Maskiell) – Bumped at the start. Bumped with another runner at the 650m.

WINDSOR CUP (P Denton) – Commenced awkwardly. Steadied when racing keenly near the 900m.

HOT DEMAND (R Vigar) – Raced wide throughout.

VIA MAZZINI (K Gladwin) – Raced wide throughout.

TANTRIC (W Davis) - Commenced awkwardly. Bumped at the 650m.

MOUSSAMBANI (B Sweeney) – Bumped at the start.

CORNELIA (D Tourneur) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped.

General – Stewards intend to interview jockey F Bergstrand in relation to her whip use on OMINOUS WARNING.

Race 7: BMNT 1600m

GRACIOUS PROSPECT (J Kah) – Bumped at the start. Raced wide throughout.

DOON BUGGY (C Johnson) – Shifted ground outwards when placed under pressure in the straight.

METALLIC CROWN (B Davis) – Bumped heavily and crowded at the start.

ELECTRIC CRIMSON (J Lyon) – Raced in an uncompetitive manner. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer D Leech was advised that the gelding must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.

WHISTLE STOP (P Hall) – Bumped at the start.

HAMMERED ART (C Spry) – Bumped and unbalanced at the start.

POT BLACK (J Todd) – Bumped at the start. Held up rounding the home turn and angled outwards to secure a clear run near the 200m. Returned having bled from the left nostril. Trainer N Dyer was advised that the gelding must perform in a satisfactory gallop in the presence of the Stewards prior to racing again in accordance with AR53.

CANNOT BE SERIOS (J Maskiell) – Cast the near fore plate in running and as a result returned with a frog injury.

GRAND TETON (K Gladwin) – Steadied when racing in restricted room near the 1200m and again steadied near the 700m.

MARINA (D Tourneur) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped.

Race 8: 0-66 1900m

ADATTO (J Maskiell) – Raced wide throughout.

HALOGEM (K Gladwin) – Crowded at the start.

OUR BARTY (W Davis) – Fractious prior to the start.

LINDWALL (C Spry) – Trainer/jockey C Spry advised that he would ride the gelding in a rearward position. This change of instruction was disseminated. Raced ungenerously rounding the 1600m turn.

WICKED RHYTHM  (J Todd) – Bumped at the start. Steadied outwards off heels at the 400m.

HILDISVINI (J Lyon) – Crowded and bumped shortly after the start. Following the poor performance a post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer D Leech was of the opinion that the gelding may have choked down in running and will now be sent for a spell.

WINDFOLA (B Sweeney) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped.

Race 9: 0-66 1900m

KIFAAH (R Oakford) – Raced keenly in the early stages and improved into restricted room near the 1400m and had to be checked by its rider. Impeded near the 900m.

FOLK TALES (J Lyon) - A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore. Trainer R Laming was advised that he must present a veterinary clearance for the gelding prior to racing again.

LAKE JACKSON (C Spry) – Dwelt at the start. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

NEUSCHWANSTEIN (F Bergstrand) – Raced wide throughout.

PRETTY BLONDE (J Potter) – Raced wide from the 650m.

SATURDAY SORCERER (V Arnott) – Compounded from the 1000m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer J Manning was advised that the gelding must barrier trial satisfactorily and he also is required to present a post trial veterinary clearance prior to racing again. 

Summary

Swab samples were taken from all winners, LEIDER & SENIOR COUNCIL. Pre race samples were taken from ROCKATOMIC, CRESTA CHROME, MOUSSAMBANI, CORNELIA, DOON BUGGY, HAMMERED ART, CRACKAJACK, HILDSVINI & all runners engaged in race 9.
